The vast majority of conferences I have attended so far boil down to pre-sales promotion of the sponsors’ products and self-promotion of the speakers, while the conference organizers aim to extract as much benefit as possible from the sponsors on a “who pays more” basis, instead of focusing on the quality of the conference.

However, last week a conference was held that does not fall into this category, as it promotes quite the opposite: knowledge and quality, presented through scientific papers, many of which will find real-world application in the years to come.

This was the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases – ECML PKDD, an event that truly puts scientific contribution and innovation ahead of commercial interests.

It is the flagship European machine learning and data mining conference, attracting a worldwide audience.

The conference program includes presentations of peer-reviewed research, invited talks by leaders in the field, a wide program of workshops and tutorials, poster sessions, a discovery challenge, a demo track, an applied data science track, an industry track and a PhD forum.

It was a great privilege to take part in discussions and exchange experiences with leading scientists and experts from all continents, as well as to follow the latest trends and discoveries in the field of artificial intelligence.
